Atlantic Council Launches Roadmap for U.S.–Africa Critical Minerals Cooperation
On May 20, 2025, the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center formally released the “African Critical Minerals Roadmap”, a key output of its three-year Critical Minerals Task Force, which was launched in early 2024. The roadmap outlines a strategic framework for strengthening partnerships between the United States and African nations in the critical minerals sector. The initiative comes amid growing global demand for essential minerals such as cobalt, lithium, graphite, and rare earth elements—materials vital for clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, and national security industries. The task force, composed of twelve high-level experts from the U.S., Europe, and Africa, aims to position African countries as central players in future global supply chains.
