University of Sydney Hosts Critical Minerals Forum

On May 20, 2025, the University of Sydney hosted a pivotal forum titled “Critical Minerals: Global Challenges and Opportunities,” as part of its Sydney Ideas public lecture series. The event brought together leading academics, industry experts, and policy advocates to discuss the multifaceted role of critical minerals in the global transition to net-zero emissions. Key speakers included Professor Marjorie Valix, leader of the Critical Minerals Pillar at the Net Zero Institute; Professor Susan Park, an expert in global governance; Namali Mackay, Founder and Managing Director of the Critical Minerals Association Australia; and Andrew Petersen, CEO of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia. The discussion was moderated by Professor Deanna D’Alessandro, Director of the Net Zero Institute.
