Australia–India Trade Talks Target Critical Minerals and Strategic Investments
On May 30, 2025, Australia and India progressed in talks for a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) to deepen trade in critical minerals, clean energy, and technology. Building on their 2022 ECTA, the new pact seeks to expand Indian access to Australian lithium, cobalt, and rare earths—vital for India’s renewable energy and defense goals. In return, India would welcome more Australian investment in agriculture and green tech. With global supply chains strained by U.S.–China tensions, both countries aim to reduce dependence on China. The CECA also supports broader Quad goals, linking trade with strategic security.
