NSW Accelerates Renewable Energy Projects

Between May 26 and June 1, 2025, New South Wales (NSW) made major strides in its clean energy transition by approving access for ten large-scale projects in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). These ventures will add 7.15 GW of combined solar, wind, and storage capacity—enough to power around 2.7 million homes by 2031, or over half the state’s households. Key projects include Lightsource bp’s Sandy Creek Solar and Battery initiative, ACEN’s Valley of the Winds wind farm, and Pacific Partnerships’ Cobbora Solar Farm. The REZ plan is projected to draw billions in private investment, cut carbon emissions by over 10 million tonnes annually, and generate thousands of jobs in regional NSW.
