Peru: Linking CSR to Social License in Mining
A recent Resources Policy study explores how Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies affect the Social License to Operate (SLO) in Peru’s mining sector. The research finds that companies embracing ethical, community-focused CSR approaches are more likely to gain lasting social acceptance. In contrast, transactional CSR efforts without meaningful engagement often lead to conflict. The study highlights the importance of trust-building, transparent communication, and government facilitation to align mining operations with local needs—crucial for long-term sustainability and legitimacy.
