Mauritania Advances Energy Infrastructure Modernization
In June 2025, Mauritania revealed a revised national energy map aimed at modernizing its infrastructure through increased private sector participation. The government confirmed that all future power projects will be developed by independent power producers (IPPs), beginning with tenders for a 550 MW gas-fired plant tied to the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) offshore field. This marks a strategic shift toward liberalizing power generation and reducing public-sector burden. Simultaneously, the country is ramping up renewables: the Boulenouar Wind Power Station (102 MW) is nearing completion, while a solar electrification program targets universal access by 2030, reinforcing Mauritania’s dual commitment to energy expansion and sustainability.
