Angola–DRC–Zambia Trade Route Gets $320M Upgrade for Mineral Transit

On June 5, 2025, the Lobito Corridor—a critical transport and logistics route connecting the mineral-rich Copperbelt region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia to Angola’s Atlantic coast—received a major boost with a $320 million investment package. The financing was led by the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) in partnership with Italian development agencies and private investors. The goal is to upgrade rail and port infrastructure to facilitate the export of copper and cobalt, two critical minerals essential for electric vehicles, renewable energy storage, and other clean technology applications.
