From Tweets to Insights: Social Opinion Mining on CSR

In May 2025, scholars from Sapienza University and the University of Naples introduced a novel framework for analyzing global perceptions of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in mining using social media. Drawing on over 349,000 tweets posted between 2006 and 2022, the study combined sentiment analysis, topic modeling, and factor analysis to uncover evolving concerns—particularly around environmental justice and Indigenous rights. Public sentiment shifted notably after 2015, with rising demands for corporate accountability. Latin American posts focused on water and land issues, while European users emphasized climate and governance. Negative sentiment spikes corresponded to mining-related events or policies, showing social media’s value as a real-time CSR feedback tool.
