Quantitative Stakeholder Model: Discrete Choice Experiments (DCE)

In May–June 2025, a multidisciplinary team of researchers from the University of British Columbia (UBC), the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) published a peer-reviewed study introducing a Quantitative Stakeholder Engagement Model using Discrete Choice Experiments (DCE) to better anticipate public responses to mining projects. The model aims to quantify preferences across stakeholder groups—such as local residents, Indigenous communities, environmental NGOs, and government agencies—by presenting them with hypothetical mining project scenarios that vary in attributes like environmental safeguards, employment guarantees, revenue sharing, and community decision-making power.
