UK Commits £17.8B to Sizewell C Nuclear Power Expansion

On June 12, 2025, the UK government increased its investment in the Sizewell C nuclear plant to £17.8 billion, solidifying its role in the country’s net-zero and energy security strategies. Located in Suffolk, adjacent to Sizewell B, the plant will supply low-carbon power to six million homes and generate 10,000 jobs. An additional £2.5 billion is allocated for R&D in small modular reactors (SMRs) and fusion energy. The project is backed by EDF and the UK Infrastructure Bank, highlighting a robust public-private partnership. Sizewell C will be a cornerstone of the UK’s clean energy future amid global fossil fuel volatility.
