G7 & strategic coordination
At their June 2025 summit, G7 leaders launched a Critical Minerals Action Plan to reshape global supply chains for lithium, cobalt, nickel, and rare earths. The initiative responds to rising geopolitical risks and overreliance on China by promoting coordinated investments, regulatory harmonization, and partnerships with like-minded nations. The plan supports responsible sourcing, recycling, and high labor and environmental standards. A joint declaration on mineral security includes provisions for strategic stockpiles, better data-sharing, and increased multilateral financing. The G7 also seeks to engage Australia, India, and South Korea. This marks a strategic shift toward safeguarding industrial competitiveness and the energy transition.
